States eye Medicaid provider pay cuts to cover budget gaps

The Big Beautiful Bill will further increase program costs while limiting key financing tools.

Governors and health agency leaders in three states have announced plans to pay health care providers such as hospitals and nursing homes less for treating low-income patients covered by Medicaid.

The actions last month were taken by executive branch leaders in Colorado, Idaho and North Carolina to quickly close unexpected budget gaps.
