States push for independent vaccine standards as CDC faces leadership crisis

Northeastern states are exploring a regional collaboration on policy.

States concerned about the leadership at the Department of Health and Human Services are laying the groundwork to set their own vaccine recommendations, an authority historically left to federal health officials.

Health leaders from eight Northeastern states met in recent days to explore regional collaboration on vaccination policy, disease tracking and emergency preparedness.
