States step up to cover federal food aid funds

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is fast-tracking $30 million in emergency funds.

Governors in at least nine states have announced new funding for food banks or food stamps to prevent families from going hungry next month as the U.S. government shutdown drags on.   

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) on Monday said she will fast-track $30 million in emergency food assistance funds to support food pantries, soup kitchens and other aid organizations, on top of $11 million she awarded earlier this month.
