States to bear more costs for SNAP programs under Trump bill

State leaders will need to spend millions of extra dollars to run food stamp programs next year under President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

The bill, signed into law earlier this month, is expected to increase costs that states bear through expanding work requirements for recipients, pressure to lower payment error rates and a 50% increase in the share of administrative cost states must cover to participate in the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
