Tenn. Senate passes bill to criminalize helping minors get abortions

It would be punishable by up to a year in prison.

Adults who help minors get abortions could serve nearly a year in prison under a bill the Tennessee Senate passed Wednesday.

The advancement of the measure comes amid a push from abortion rights opponents to address what they see as a weakness in statewide abortion bans that can be undermined by travel or the transport of medication to and from states with less restrictive laws.
