Texas kicks off special session on redistricting, pot, disaster relief

Lobbying reform, abortion restrictions and a bathroom bill are also on the agenda.

Texas lawmakers return to Austin today to tackle an ambitious and controversial list of policy priorities, in the shadow of devastating floods that killed more than 100 people in the Hill Country earlier this month.

Gov. Greg Abbott (R) had ordered lawmakers to return to special session to handle a roster of unfinished business, including a plan to limit access to THC products. Earlier this month, he added four disaster-related priorities to the agenda, including legislation to improve early warning systems, strengthen emergency communications and disaster relief for impacted communities.
