Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) is calling on lawmakers to create a research institute dedicated to the treatment and prevention of dementia, a disease that costs the U.S. health system hundreds of billions of dollars a year.
Calling the program a “major legislative initiative,” Patrick said Monday he is working with leading lawmakers in the Senate and the House to craft legislation in the legislative session to fund a proposed Dementia Prevention Research Institute of Texas.
