Top tech firm pulls support for Calif. AI bill

A key corporate backer of a closely-watched AI bill is concerned over recent amendments.

A closely-watched bill in the California legislature to address algorithmic discrimination by AI-backed automated decision-making systems has lost a key corporate backer.

Workday, the human resource management software giant, said Thursday that it is changing its position on AB 2930 from “endorse” to “support if amended” because of changes previously made to the legislation.

“This is not an outcome we welcome,” Chandler Morse, vice president of public policy at Workday, told Pluribus News. “It’s disappointing that we are in a position where we can’t support this bill.”
