Trump’s AI preemption push sparks GOP outcry in states

Republican governors have insisted states must act if Congress won’t.

President Donald Trump’s announced plan to sign an executive order aiming to stamp out state regulation of artificial intelligence puts him on a collision course with Republicans who don’t share his evangelism for AI and insist states must step in where Congress won’t. 

Trump views state regulations as an impediment to the United State’s global dominance in AI. But an array of Republican governors, attorneys general and lawmakers oppose preemption and warn that AI left unfettered will lead to serious harm.
