Under-16 social media ban advances in Florida

It’s a priority of the House speaker and has bipartisan support.

A Florida House panel advanced a bill Thursday that would bar those under 16 years old from having social media accounts, a dramatic step beyond recently passed laws in other states to require parental permission.

House Bill 1 is a priority of House Speaker Paul Renner (R) and earned strong bipartisan support in its first test before the Regulatory Reform and Economic Development Subcommittee.
