Democrats are optimistic history will repeat itself next week when Virginia voters choose a new governor, as polls continue to show former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s (D) standing unaffected by the texting scandal roiling the attorney general race.
Virginians have elected a governor from the opposite party as the president in all but one election since 1977. All signs are pointing to this race following the rule, not replicating the 2013 exception.
