Walz drops re-election bid

The Minnesota governor cited an ongoing fraud scandal that has consumed conservative cable news.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the 2024 Democratic nominee for vice president, will forgo his planned run for re-election, he said in a surprise announcement Monday.

Walz has been under pressure from national and state Republicans over alleged and proven fraud in state service programs. In announcing he will abandon plans for a third term, Walz blamed the Trump administration and its GOP allies for fanning the flames.
