Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) signed a measure that opens the door for the state to link to the carbon markets of California and Quebec to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region while being more cost-effective.

“This bill will make it easier to link the Washington program with the California and Quebec program,” Inslee said at a signing ceremony Thursday. “A linked market provides a larger carbon market with more stable prices, helping to contain compliance costs, enabling more investments in decarbonisation and benefiting all Washington.”
