What to watch as La. governor’s race kicks off

Republicans are optimistic they can win with Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) term-limited.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) served for the last eight years as both a bulwark against some of the more conservative policies that glided through the Republican-controlled legislature and a model of what kind of Democrat can succeed in the red South. 

But that is coming to an end. Edwards is up against a term limit, and a Republican is favored to replace him following the elections this fall.
