What we’re looking for
Op-eds should serve our audience of state legislators, legislative staff, opinion leaders and policymakers by spotlighting a viewpoint on a specific, timely topic. It should provide a fresh perspective and a deeper understanding of the subject.
Submissions should be 600-800 words, have a lede that draws in readers, and quickly get to the crux of your argument.
We favor opinion pieces from sitting state legislators who want to promote and highlight their big new ideas. Pluribus News is in the business of spotlighting new legislative trends — if you’re at the vanguard of a big new idea, tell us about it!
We want to know how your experience informed and shaped your opinion. Make it clear you understand the other side’s viewpoint. It will strengthen your argument.
We ask that you include hyperlinks to back up quotes, statistics and assertions of fact.
What we can’t use
Clichéd and hackneyed writing; self-serving writing; unsupported disparaging of someone’s character or viewpoint; ideological jargon; euphemisms; numerous acronyms; misspellings; factual and grammatical errors; those with axes to grind.
All conflicts of interest must be disclosed. We cannot accept submissions written by artificial intelligence or pieces that were previously published elsewhere.

We reserve the right to edit submissions for clarity, length, organization, argument logic, grammar and style. We will fact-check submissions, and we cannot accept unsupported statements of fact.
