Newsom signs bills to slash infrastructure project red tape

The governor pushed making it easier to build clean energy projects so California can meet a 2045 deadline to convert to 100% clean electricity sources.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Monday signed a package of bills aimed at speeding up the permitting process for large construction projects, including solar and wind farms, as the state weans itself from fossil fuels and prepares to receive tens of billions of dollars in federal infrastructure funds.

The effort follows a broader trend this year in both red and blue states of lawmakers and governors pursuing ways to ease regulatory hurdles. In California, Newsom has said the state must make it easier to build clean energy projects to meet a 2045 deadline to convert to 100% clean electricity sources.
